Summary

New York Times bestselling author Rachel Hawkins, writing as Erin Sterling, casts a spell with a spine-tingling romance full of wishes, witches, and hexes gone wrong。

Nine years ago, Vivienne Jones nursed her broken heart like any young witch would: vodka, weepy music, bubble baths…and a curse on the horrible boyfriend。 Sure, Vivi knows she shouldn’t use her magic this way, but with only an “orchard hayride” scented candle on hand, she isn’t worried it will cause him anything more than a bad hair day or two。

That is until Rhys Penhallow, descendent of the town’s ancestors, breaker of hearts, and annoyingly just as gorgeous as he always was, returns to Graves Glen, Georgia。 What should be a quick trip to recharge the town’s ley lines and make an appearance at the annual fall festival turns disastrously wrong。 With one calamity after another striking Rhys, Vivi realizes her silly little Ex Hex may not have been so harmless after all。

Suddenly, Graves Glen is under attack from murderous wind-up toys, a pissed off ghost, and a talking cat with some interesting things to say。 Vivi and Rhys have to ignore their off the charts chemistry to work together to save the town and find a way to break the break-up curse before it’s too late。

The Ex Hex was exactly what I wanted to read this October- a fun romantic comedy with some magic thrown in。 Vivy cursed the man who broke her heart, Rhys, nine years ago。 Of course, she thought it wasn't a real hex, but when he returns to Graves Glen, everything starts going crazy。 Together, Vivy and Rhys must try to end the curse。 This was such a fun read and I can't recommend it enough。 I look forward to more books like this from the author in the future。 The Ex Hex was exactly what I wanted to read this October- a fun romantic comedy with some magic thrown in。 Vivy cursed the man who broke her heart, Rhys, nine years ago。 Of course, she thought it wasn't a real hex, but when he returns to Graves Glen, everything starts going crazy。 Together, Vivy and Rhys must try to end the curse。 This was such a fun read and I can't recommend it enough。 I look forward to more books like this from the author in the future。 。。。more

Strong three stars! I loved the setting and the concept - the witchy stuff always gets me。 I'm not entirely sure why it didn't reach 4 stars。 Perhaps because I wasn't a big fan of the narrator? I didn't lik the narrator's voice, and when one of the main characters is from Wales I do except the narration to match; not an American accent。 Strong three stars! I flew through this。 This is exactly what I needed。 Best way I have to describe this book is witchy romcom。 There are rumors of a 2nd book in the works。 Not about Vivi and Ryus this time。 But it is set in Penhallows。 And probably about a different Jones。

Wickedly good reading。 Easygoing and fun, with enough emotions in the mix, that made me fall under its spell。

The Ex Hex was such an enjoyable read! I loved Vivi from the first page and Rhys was so roguishly charming。 Their chemistry was 🔥🔥🔥 and the supporting cast of characters were brilliant。 Would definitely recommend!

*Actual Rating: 3。5/5 Stars* An adult rom com for fans of passionate second chance love and all things magic and Halloween, “The Ex Hex” is an adult Halloween-town where Witches in Georgia and Wales join together to save the town (and an ex boyfriend from a summer fling) from being quite literally destroyed。 Vivienne Jones and Rhys Penhallow were THE summer romance when they were barely adults the summer they met at the Solstice Revel。 Rhys, scion of a famed Witch family and Vivi, a fledgling Wi *Actual Rating: 3。5/5 Stars* An adult rom com for fans of passionate second chance love and all things magic and Halloween, “The Ex Hex” is an adult Halloween-town where Witches in Georgia and Wales join together to save the town (and an ex boyfriend from a summer fling) from being quite literally destroyed。 Vivienne Jones and Rhys Penhallow were THE summer romance when they were barely adults the summer they met at the Solstice Revel。 Rhys, scion of a famed Witch family and Vivi, a fledgling Witch discovering her heritage, were doomed from the start and fast forward to nine years later, Rhys returns to the town in Georgia to recharge the ley lines and fulfill tradition - becoming entangled in the curse that Vivi had initiated unknowingly in a drunken stupor on him。 The book has some great comedic moments and banter between the two MCs, and the author does a good job with the limited world building done in more traditional urban fantasy settings (where the real world and the magical world cohabit), and true to millennial form, a few HP references make it in the book (while I too am over it, I’m self aware that HP is an accessible magic reference, the same way LOTR is accessible reference for fantasy) and also some great moments reminiscent of Sabrina (90s version), Bewitched, and Halloween-town movies from Disney。 Towards the later half of the book I felt that the author was a little shaky, especially as the plot progressed through, and I also didn’t like the lack of delineation between time progression in the book, or the “conflict” that occurred (or did not depending on outlook) between Rhys and Vivi。 I also felt that as a fantasy reader, while the author did a great job incorporating the magic being used, that a few scenes where there was an increase in action not a lot occurred in the writing to make those scene even more dynamic。 A solid read and debut for an adult rom-com, and a perfect read to get into the mood for the spooky season complete with an HFN。 。。。more

A romcom with magic?! Sign me up! This book was fun, cute, and witchy! Perfect for an October read。 Rhys Penhollow is absolutely adorable。 I do have a weakness for a man with an accent。 Especially when they’re Welsh with dark hair and blue eyes。

3。5 ⭐This was a VERY fun read。 Each character felt very real and fully fledged。。。I like when the author crafts a character well enough that I can imagine them existing even when they're not on the page。 This book employs a switching pov narrative style, which can be hard to execute, but the switches were seamless and really made the story fly。 My biggest critique, and why I didn't rate this book 4 ⭐ is that the pacing was off。 It started off great and then about 1/3 of the way through it felt li 3。5 ⭐This was a VERY fun read。 Each character felt very real and fully fledged。。。I like when the author crafts a character well enough that I can imagine them existing even when they're not on the page。 This book employs a switching pov narrative style, which can be hard to execute, but the switches were seamless and really made the story fly。 My biggest critique, and why I didn't rate this book 4 ⭐ is that the pacing was off。 It started off great and then about 1/3 of the way through it felt like Sterling hit 2x speed on everything and rushed the resolution。 The climax of the book was a little too easy and the tension leading up to it really fizzled part way through。 Nevertheless, it's still a fun October read and Sterling is a fun, inventive writer。 Just wish the story, especially the very end, wasn't so rushed that it felt like I was missing emotional and character development。 。。。more

VERY steamy book and strong language throughout (plethora of F 💣’s)。 Storyline was cute but personally hard to get through with all the language。

The only thing you need to know is that I'm an absolute sucker for romantic shit。This was so enjoyable and fun, and the only reason I'm not giving it more stars is because I knew exactly what was going to happen next。Still, such a nice first October read!Definitely planning on reading more of Erin's books。 The only thing you need to know is that I'm an absolute sucker for romantic shit。This was so enjoyable and fun, and the only reason I'm not giving it more stars is because I knew exactly what was going to happen next。Still, such a nice first October read!Definitely planning on reading more of Erin's books。 。。。more
